Foxconn Channel Ready with Quantum Force P67 Motherboard

OEM major Foxconn’s very own channel brand is ready with its first high-end socket LGA1155 motherboard based on the Intel P67 Express chipset, supporting upcoming “Sandy Bridge” processors. The motherboard falls into Foxconn Channel’s gamer and overclocker oriented Quantum Force brand. The Quantum Force P67 from Foxconn uses bleeding-edge components such as digital PWM offering precise voltage control for the processor, multi-phase VRM for the four DDR3 memory slots, and is rich in connectivity options.

The LGA1155 socket is powered by a 14-phase digital PWM circuit using independent single-phase PWM inductors made by CPL, and memory using a 2-phase VRM. Expansion slots include two PCI-Express 2.0 x16 (electrical x8/x8 with both populated), three PCI-E x1, and one PCI. Both ATI CrossFireX and NVIDIA SLI are sure to be supported. Storage connectivity includes two internal SATA 6 Gb/s, four internal SATA 3 Gb/s, two eSATA 3 Gb/s, and one ATA connector supporting up to two IDE devices.

Gigabyte Working On Premium Gaming Motherboard Brand

Gigabyte surprised us earlier this year, when it broke its tradition of sticking to a blue colored PCB for every motherboard it sells, by unveiling high-end socket LGA1155 motherboards with black PCBs. The next logical step is to build a premium motherboard brand targeting high-end gaming PC builds. Gigabyte does have a formidable high-end lineup, but they’re known more for overclocking and tons of connectivity options.

The new brand by Gigabyte is competitive with ASUS’ Republic of Gamers (ROG) brand, MSI’s XPower. One of the first products is referred to as the “G1-Killer”, and all but an outline of an ATX motherboard. The product range is said to start at US $299, some of the first products will be unveiled at the upcoming CES event held in January, 2011.

AMD Kills ATI Brand, Future Products to Feature Brand Change

This had to happen eventually, and it did just happen: AMD has dissolved the ATI brand completely, and consolidated ATI brands, such as Radeon and FirePro under the AMD main brand. Under the new branding scheme, new graphics products AMD launches (such as the upcoming Radeon HD 6000 series), will do away with “ATI” completely from the logo, marketing material, and so on, and the market will, as it already has been doing since the AMD-ATI merger, albeit informally, refer to Radeon/FirePro products as “AMD Radeon” and “AMD FirePro”.

AMD explains its move as an “evolution of the AMD brand portfolio”, saying that consolidation of ATI-branded products under the main brand results in reduced marketing overhead. It claims to have surveyed several thousand discrete graphics-aware users in in the U.S., U.K., Germany, China, Japan, Brazil, and Russia. The survey revealed that when made aware of ATI-AMD merger, AMD preference triples; AMD brand is stronger than ATI (against graphics competitors); and that people see Radeon and FirePro product names more conspicuous than ATI, indicating a “permission” to consolidate ATI into AMD. The survey was conducted entirely by AMD.
